Error_Install_Failure HP Print Drivers

Issue: While installing the HP Image Zone software, the installation will stop during the file copying process (usually between 3% and 75% completed) and an Error_Install_Failure message will display. The error message will refer to the HP Software Update module in the title bar of the message.

Solution: The only reliable solution I have found is to remove all other HP printing related software and HP Update prior to running hp_53_enu.exe.

Other people seem to have found success with the following - some of which I tried prior to actually ripping out the other HP print drivers.

Follow the steps below to resolve the issue.

Step one: Delete the software update key from the Windows registry

WARNING:Registry Editor is an advanced tool for viewing and changing settings in your system registry, which contains information about how your computer runs. Although Registry Editor enables you to inspect and modify the registry, normally you do not need to do so, and making incorrect changes can break your system. An advanced user who is prepared to both edit and restore the registry can safely use Registry Editor for such tasks as eliminating duplicate entries or deleting entries for programs that have been uninstalled or deleted. If you are not comfortable with modifying the registry, click Contact HP on this page to contact an HP support representative for help.

  1. Click Start , then Run.
  2. Type in regedit and then click OK.
  3. Click File , then Export to export a copy of the existing registry to reinstall if there is a problem.
In the Save In section, save the file to a location where you can easily find it.
Verify that the Export Range is set to All and name the file registry-backup.
    Click Save.
  4. Click the plus sign + in front of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
  5. Click the plus sign + in front of SOFTWARE .
  6. Click the plus sign + in front of Hewlett-Packard .
  7. Right-click hp software update and then select Delete .
Confirm the deletion of the registry key.
Close the registry editor and reboot
  8. reinstall the software:

    Run the Access Denied Utility.

    Run hp_53_enu utility

Reinstall the HP Image Zone software.

If the issue is resolved , you do not need to continue with the rest of the instructions in this document.

If the issue is not resolved , continue on to the next step.

Step two: Update the Windows Scripting for the HP Software Update module

Follow the steps below to update the Windows scripting that helps address the HP Software Update module error.

  1. Visit the Microsoft Download Center, verify that it is searching ALL Microsoft products , then type VBScript and click Go.
  2. After the results appear, click the link for Windows Script 5.6 (or later) for the version of Windows you are using.
  3. Download and install this update, and then restart the computer.
  4. After the computer has restarted, reinstall the HP software.
